If you see posts of my recent work, it’s mostly stained glass mosaic. However, I didn’t start my creative endeavors with glass media. As long as I can remember I loved to draw, using the backs of cereal boxes, gift wrap, brown paper bags-whatever was handy. I was discouraged to work towards a degree in art and told in the 1950’s and 60’s that unless you taught art in school, you couldn’t earn a living that way.

While my art didn’t make me wealthy, it gave me a satisfactory life and turned doodles and shapes into a career. I’ve been employed by a gift industry to sketch every product for their catalog (a look they preferred to photography), head the product design for a Minneapolis import company, write two how-to books on oil painting, owned both wholesale product companies and creative retail stores, work daily in my glass studio, and still enjoy adding to my humorous greeting card line called Just Sayin’ currently having 78 titles.

I’ve had fascination and attempts at oil media, watercolor, acrylic, fabric, glass and tiles. I’ve found wonderful friendships with people who also find creativity a daily necessity. Those friends encourage and understand this crazy interest in artistic or creative mindset.

I’ve particularly enjoyed teaching workshops where I could share both what I’ve learned and the excitement that comes when you complete a painting or project yourself. I’ve been known for telling students that it’s all about enjoying the process, not to worry about the results being perfect. “ If you like it, hang it on the wall. If you don’t like your creation, hide it under the bed….who’s ever to know ?
